Does it happen that often in the US?
According to the National Human Trafficking Resource hotline and Polaris is an average of 100 calls a day (www.polarisproject.org)
Does it only happen to girls?
No, boys are also victims. This is not a gender specific issue
How would I know my child is in danger or what should I be looking out for?
Human trafficking does not discriminate. There are signs, but they are not exclusive to Human Trafficking nor is this a list of all signs as each case is individual.
Such signs could include:
- Withdrawal
- A controlling relationship
- Receiving extravagant gifts
- Unexplained bruises
- Changes in clothing
- A much older friend that seems to be highly influential to their behavior or communication
